Amount or amounts of money?

Hello all,

please help me out with the followingEmotion: smile! I'm not sure which of the two sentences is correct (if any lol)

1.) "Both in the countries listed in the table and overall in Europe, the AMOUNT of money invested in education increased between 1990 and 1995."

2.) "Both in the countries listed in the table and overall in Europe, the AMOUNTS of money invested in education increased between 1990 and 1995."

Which would you prefer? Could you please indicate in your reply whether you are a native speaker of English? Thank you very much!

Bye,
Luzi

I would use number one, it doesnt need to be 'amounts' as it is just one 'amount of money'. Im a from England so im a Native speaker!

Either is possible. I prefer the first: the amount of money.

(The check mark at the right indicates 'native speaker', so you don't have to ask that question when you post.)
