Among/between in plural

Is it correct to use 'between' when the used nouns are in plural?
e.g

The hassle between Tom's parents and Tom's friends.
or
The hassle among Tom's parents and Tom's friends.

'Between' is the undisputed choice if you wish to avoid confusion as to who is hassling whom (I presume that it is the parents vs. the friends-- two parties of antagonists).

Does it mean that sentence below is incorrect?

I have noticed a tendency among both speakers and writers to ignore the issue....

No. It doesn't mean the sentence is incorrect.

"between" sets one group off from another, which is what you have with such things as disagreements, hassles, and so on.

0Hassle is qute commonly used in the Uk but wouldn't be the word I'd choose in this situation. To me, hassle is either something that is a nuisance, a time-waste (for example it is a hassle having to go to the supermarket, or is a word for mild bothering - I get hassled by people asking for charity donations as I walk down the high street. He keeps hassling me to go and fix his computer.02br
