Sometimes I am told that the difference between among and between is important, but reading the following explanation, I have a feeling that there is no difference between among and between in some contexts.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
among : in shares to each of (a group of people)
The property was divided equally among the four survivors. [=each of the four survivors received an equal share of the property]
The food was distributed among the people.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
between : in shares to each of (two or more people)
The property was divided equally between the son and the daughter. [=the son and the daughter received an equal share of the property]
His estate was divided between [=among] his four grandchildren.

In fact, it seems to me that 'be devided/distributed among' is like 'be devided/dstributed between.' Beside that, there seems to be a great abundance of examples of the difference between among and between that I can't tell. It's frustrating. What I can assure myself of is that both among and between is used to indicate two or more people or things.
