Among/between

Hello!
Should I use 'among' or 'between' here if the meaning is 'in general'?

In other words, according to this approach, the boundaries between/among ethnic groups are not the result of objectively determined cultural differences between/among these groups.

Hi, Usually you use between when there are only two things or persons and among is used when there are more than two things or persons. In your example you give no indication of number so I guess both between and among are possible. On a more abstract level, one can argue that even if we know there are more than two ethnic groups, one boundary alone can only separate any 2 of the ethnic groups mentioned.
