Among the rice?

Hi. Please help. Is this correct to have the phrase "among the rice" in the following sentence? I believe the word "rice" is uncountable and refers to a certain type of grain. Now, if it is correct, can we say, "He searched it among the equipment or luggage"? I am sure the words "equipment" and "luggage" are uncountable, like "rice."

He searched for it among rice.
