Among [the many...] or [many ...]
(1) Pollution is among many problems in our city.
(2) Pollution is among the many problems in our city.
I am not sure if I need the article "the" there. My non-native English speaking friends think you could use it if you want to emphasize the list of problems your city is experiencing at the moment.
What is your opinion? Thank you very much for all your time and help.
