Among and from

Hi
This doubt has arisen(or risen??) after reading a user's post. Which are correct :

I was given to choose from similie, metaphor and personification.
I was given to choose among similie, metaphor and personification.
I was given to choose amongst similie, metaphor and personification.

Do you think it would be better to replace 'given' with 'asked'?
Please help me out.
