among, amongst

Hey all,

Have a sentence here and I'd just like for someone to explain to me which word is better suited for it - 'among' or 'amongst' :

In the late 1800s, Persians made their debut in North America and quickly became the hot favorite ____ cat enthusiasts.

Any help would be most kind.
