American Way

In American English, do you concur that the examples below are correctly punctuated with the quote marks? Man, these look strange!

(1) She marked the box with a large "X."


(2) Mike said, "I love the song 'Ain't Misbehavin'."

(3) The Latin abbreviations "e.g.," "i.e.," "etc.," and "et al." were overused in his essay.


(4) The letters "a," "e," "i," "o," and "u" are known as vowels.
