American vs British phrasal verbs and idioms

American vs British phrasal verbs/idioms - are they different a lot?
I want to improve my knowlenge of phrasal verbs and idioms. I'm looking for a good book to study. I'd like to study American phrasal verbs and idioms, however most of the books teach British English.
So my question is: can I keep studying using British books? Will Americans understand me then?

Here is a good list. For each entry, it will give definitions and tell you if it is British English, American English, or International English. Maybe 5 percent or so are exclusively British, but given in a context most Americans would figure out the meaning.
