How much do hotels hold on credit card?

How would a receptionist say this to a guest? Is it natural to say 'hold goes through' or 'hold is accepted or hold is declined? Which is natural?

If the hold doesn't go through, we will have to ask you to pay upfront as opposed to at check out.
