Could you please explain whether the following sentence “Language and cognitive deficits are considered orthogonal to diagnosis ” means

1. Language and cognitive deficits have no relation to diagnosis.

OR

2. Language and cognitive deficits have a direct relation to diagnosis.

Are you sure 'orthogonal' is the correct word here? The only medical definition I can find is this one, dealing with MRIs. com/orthogonal Clive

Are you sure 'orthogonal' is the correct word here?

The only medical definition I can find is this one, dealing with MRIs.
