Ambiguous

When I was in junior high school, I was browsing the web for an assignment on Abraham Lincoln when I came across Gettysburg College's website.

Does this sentence imply that I was looking for an assignment or that I was looking for some matter for the assignment?

Logic comes into play. If it said you were a teacher, then you were perhaps looking for some tips on creating a good assignment. Since it said you were a student, then logically, you were browsing for [the purpose of completing] an assignment.
