AMB jumps 13% on bid hopes

This is a headline. AMB is the name of a company. I understand it's about the shares of the company, but what does 'on bid hopes' mean here?

Best regards,
Dem.

I'm no expert on this, but my guess is that the shares have gained in value because people are hoping that someone has made (or will make) a bid to purchase or take over the company. Does this make sense in the context?

I think it does, I don't have much context myself - just the headline...
Could it mean the opposite, i.e. AMB making a bid to take over another company?

Yes, that probably makes more sense!
