Am I right about this analysis ?

Here is a sentence:

His lifetime being misunderstood by his family has been followed by an even longer literary afterlife being misunderstood by the world.

(1) Is this "being misunderstood " construction is a participle construction in grammar ? Or is there a particular terminology to describe this kind of construction?

(2) I thought incorrectly "being" in this sentence can be emitted because if I delete "being", "His lifetime misunderstood" is then equal to "His lifetime which is misunderstood" . But in this case, "His lifetime being misunderstood" is in fact equal to "His lifetime when he was misunderstood". Am I right about analysis above?

Thanks!
