Although the girl is beautiful, she is not intelligent.

1. In spite of being beautiful, the girl is not intelligent.

2. In spite of a beautiful girl, she is not intelligent.

Which is more suitable, 1 or 2?

A small comment.

More natural, to me, is In spite of her beauty, the girl is not intelligent.

But in terms of meaning it still does not seem quite right to me., because it implies that beauty is linked to intelligence. Consider that you wouldn't normally say eg In spite of her height, the girl is not intelligent.
