Alternatives for "Electricity went off "

What are the various ways of saying "The electricity went off so I couldn't chat with her on the Internet?"
"Electricity went off " seems mouthful to me while conversing with someone, so are there any shorter alternatives? Could someone please answer?

Thanks in advance.

You could say: There was a power failure. It isn't particularly short, though. Also, if it was night and there were no lights to be seen anywhere, you could say: There was a blackout.
