alternative approach to progress

Hi, feels like I need to make this sentence better, what can you suggest?

Hereby, an alternative approach to progress in this field is synthesizing of elements using inelastic reactions.

Thanks

The word hereby isn't really used in that way in English. Is this an introduction to an explanation? If so, you could write, Following I present Following you will find Following is and then edit the second part of the sentence to an alternative approach to progress in this field: the synthesizing of elements using inelastic reactions.

Thanks. Sorry, I meant to say "thus" (didn't delete the first version of the sentence).
I was actually wondering about "alternative approach to progress" expression, if it sounds ok to to the native speakers.
Elanguestthe synthesizing
I think 'synthesis' would be better in your option.

The phrase 'an alternative approach to progress' sounds odd to me.

How about 'an alternative line of research'?

Thanks, Clive.
The problem is that it is not a different line of research, it is still the same line. The meaning is that the previously used approch in synthesizing elements exhausted itself, so an alternative solution using inelastic reactions in synthesis of elements (so that further progress in this field can be accomplished) was suggested.
Do you have any ideas?

How about speaking of 'a slight change to this line of research'?

Can you think of an expression with the word 'alternative'? I need to emphasize that these slight changes are alternative to the first option. Alternative way in synthesizing maybe?

Thanks for telling me that alternative approch didn't sound good. Won't use it then. I knew it was wrong. Will continue thinking of another option.

Please show me the complete sentence you are now suggesting.

Clive, I didn't think of the whole sentence as of yet, but it will sound something like this:

Therefore, an alternative way to synthesis of elements using inelastic reactions was suggested to further progress in the field.

Therefore, an alternative way to synthesize elements using inelastic reactions was suggested to further progress in the field.

Still sounds very awkward to me.

Do you need the underlined part, or is it self-evident?
