Alteration of/in ?

Hello.

"...modern habits are initiating a major alteration of the way people perceive...".

Alteration of something? Is it any good?
If I was to use "change" instead of "alteration", what would it be:
"a major change of the way people perceive" or "a major change in the way people perceive"?

Thanks.

'Of' is grammatically possible, but 'in' is the collocation with both 'alteration' and 'change'.

The original version is acceptable.

I think ' . . .a major change in the way people perceive. . . .' is better.
