Already/Yet in Positive and Negative Questions

Hi there,

Many people have asked about the difference between already and yet in questions. But I am, nevertheless, going to ask the same question in search for a more precise and concise and definitive answer.

What is the difference between the following questions:

1. Have you finished yet? (If your answer is that this question is neutral, then how would you compare it with "Have you finished?" without "yet".

2. Have you finished already?

3. Haven't you finished yet?

4. Haven't you finished already?

I would appreciate it if non-native speakers don't confuse the issue with their guesses. And if you are a native speaker and you are not clear about these questions, please, refrain from befuddling the matter.

Thanks.

  • It seems to reject answers before you even get them.
  • I doubt anyone will answer your question.
