Already took and already taken

Which of these is correct:

I have already taken those classes.

I already took those classes.

Can the word 'already' be used with both took and taken?

Top answer

I think people who speak AmE would use either "I have already taken those classes" or "I already took those classes" without making a distinction between them. But a speaker of BrE would only say "I have already taken those classes". OR "I already took those classes before (another past event/action)".

Thank you so much. So it is ok to include the word 'already' in both cases (before the words took and taken)?

I agree with your first example, but I'd be far more likely to say "I had already taken those classes" before another past event.

I don't see a big difference between I had and I have already taken those classes? would you explain please? And what do you mean that you would use it before another past event?

Many thanks in advance!

But there is a difference between "I had already taken those classes" and "I have already taken those classes". The former is in Past Perfect, while the latter is in Present perfect".

Thanks for your explanation. What about ' she has already eaten or she already ate'. Wouldn't these sentences be also appropriate in the case you provided?

Even though, had is used for the past and have in present, but couldn't either one be used in some cases?

Please show me how to use she has already eaten? Or is the sentence just wrong? And when to use she already ate?Are these sentences right but could not be used in the example provided? Please advice? I feel confused now.

I have already eaten. That is why I do not wish to eat anything else.

I had already eaten. That was why I did not wish to eat anything else.

So I had is more in the past than I have. Correct?

Would the same apply for she has and she had?

lastly, what about I already ate?

Thank you very much again!
