along the way?

Hello,

Could you please give me another equivalent to this prepositional phrase, or paraphrase what is meant by it?

I understand it's meaning but when I apply it to the context of the sentence, I don't feel that it conveys the meaning well.

Think of the brain as a machine for not merely filtering and sorting this sensory input, but for associating it with other events or stimuli occuring simultaneously ant any synapse or receptor along the way ?? that is, learning...

Thank you.

Thank you so much.

In this context, along the way = while doing the filtering and sorting; at the same time as it does the filtering and sorting

It filters and sorts, but it also makes associations [along the way / at the same time / while doing these tasks].

Sounds like an interesting book. What's the title? Who's the author?
