Hi, I wonder if this post is allowed in this forum as I don't find a forum dedicated to reading comprehension. I am doing an multiple choice exercise in First Certificate Trainer, and there is something I can't understand even after reading the explanation.
.
"Sixty days walking over ice and snow in temperatures as low as -45ºC, with nothing to keep you company except the occasional polar bear. This is no small achievement. Only a few people have ever walked to the North Pole unassisted, and if Christina succeeds, she will have earned a place in the history books and met one of the few remaining challenges of exploration left to women"
.
The explanation says that "the few remaining challenges of exploration left to women" means "female explorers have already done most of the world’s difficult journeys". But I think "the few...left to women" means "male have done most of the explorations", and now only a few was left to female explorers. I keep trying to change my thinking to match with the explanation, but something feels off. I hope teachers and learners can explain it to me more clearly.
Thank you very much
