Almost out of it

Hi

Certain lady was trying to determine frequencies in the human energy field.
The texts says:
People who can go into trance and apparently channel other information sources through them, skip these "psychic" frequencies (400 to 800 cycles per second) entirely and operate in a narrow band between 800 and 900 cps. "They don't have any psychic breadth at all," states Hunt. "They're up there in their own field. It's narrow. It's pinpointed, and they literally are almost out of it"

What probably is the meaning of "are almost out of it"? I take it to mean they almost go beyond the frequency of their own fields, but maybe the meaning of "out of it" is different? Maybe it means "they almost don't have it"?

Top answer

It might mean 'outside their own narrow field'. More generally, if someone is out of it , it can mean they have lost control of themselves in some way, eg by drinking excessively.
