Allow for

Hi

Please advise whether the use of the term 'allow for' in the following sentence is correct:

"The addition rate as well as the composition of the added mixture may be varied and allow for full control on the composition of the generated copolymer chain."

If the usage of the term is allowed in this sentence, then where else should this kind of usage be not used. Please clarify.

Thanks and regards

Elango.

I believe you want to say may be varied to allow for full control of but aside from that, it seems fine. However, although allow for is acceptable, I would suggest provide as an alternative. to provide for full control of the composition...

  • I suggest you change the and to to because the reason you would vary the rate and compositoin of the mixture is specifically to control the final composition, so it is a cause-and-effect, not an "and" situation.
