I think "editing" would sound more natural.

I guess it depends on what you mean.
To me, "rewriting" almost suggests re-entering the whole field. Is that your intention? - to clear the field?

My intention was not so specific, so maybe I'd better avoid using my original sentence.

How about 'Press this button to amend/modify/re-enter/revise the data'?
