All...must put on (singular/plural)

All students must put on their school badges (when/while/-) inside the school compound.

OR

All students must put on a school badge (when/while) inside the school compound.

What is the correct answer?

They all sound fine to me but I would say wear instead of put on. Putting on something only takes a moment and after one has done that one wears what one has put on. CB

They all sound fine to me but I would say wear instead of put on. Putting on something only takes a moment and after one has done that one wears what one has put on.

From my viewpoint, it means something like (100 students, 1 badge)

Look at it this way. A hundred students go into a bookshop and everybody buys a book. When they come out of the shop, the shop has sold a hundred books even though everybody bought just one book.
