Both look ok to me, though 1. would be more common and 2. more poetic I think.
You could also say; 3. He flew all day long.

Hello Clive,

I was reading a dictionary and IT was written that we can put "the", "this", "my" etc.

between "all and the noun that follow it.

So, Why cannot we use "all the day"?

Thanks.

Hi hanuman_2000,

One of the contexts that I can think of:

He flew to Newyork on Tuesday , and all the day long he flew . ( Here , 'the day' is 'Tuesday' since you have already mentioned the day).

I'd say "the whole day long", then...

Hi guys,

As noted earlier, 'all the day long' sounds 'poetic'.

99.9% of the time, and in everyday speech, you will hear 'all day long'.

Best wishes, Clive
