All week the kids continually/continuously asked for pizza for dinner.

All week the kids continually asked for pizza for dinner.

Hi,
Why can't "continuallly" in the above be replaced by "continuously?" Could you give me a simple reason? Thanks.

It's a matter of intermittent (continual) vs. unbroken (continuous). They didn't ask for pizza night and day without ever stopping!
