Could you please explain the bold part to me?
After returning to her country after 17 years she felt that everything was flux.

Hi. Flux, I guess, is rather poetic noun of "flow" which means that she came home and noticed how much had changed while she had been abroad.
There is also an idiom "A flux and reflux" whcih means "Everything goes and disappears as time goes by".

I would expect the word "flux" to be used in the sense of "changing" or "fluctuating". Thus, in your sentence that would mean that when she returned, everything was in the process of changing. However, with
