All that John said was true

Hello,

Have a technical question concerning "All that John said was true".

Is it same as "All things what John said was true", or "All what John said was true"? So problem is "That" - not sure if it´s refering to "What" or "that things"...I hope I explained clearly enough this. If not, then I´ll try harder ;-)

Many thanks for the reply. I do know the meaning of its, but what´s the function of the "That" in "All that John said was true"?

It is a relative pronoun.

Isn´t it the same to say too like "All John said is true", since usually "that" can be left out? And "All that (that = those things), that John said is true" so double that´s...

All that that John said is true.-- Only in spoken English would this work.
