All + expressions of time

Hello. Can you help me with this? Are they all correct?

1) On Saturdays I always go to her house and we spend all the day there.(PLACE+TIME) Is grammatically correct to say "all the day"?

2) All the weekends I go shopping. I would correct it "I go shopping every weekend". But is the first one incorrect?

3) On Saturdays I go with my family to a park all the afternoon. I would correct it "On Saturdays my family and I spend all the afternoon in a park". But I am not following the right structure PLACE first and TIME then....

Thank you !

Great Clive!

You´re right. I was refering to sentences like the last two. And I found that you added a ,(comma) in number 3 examples. So if I happen to see sentences like this: "On Saturdays I go to the park", I have to add the comma, right?

Last question. In number 2, I could also right "I go shopping all weekends". This one is right, isn´t it?

Thank you for your detai

Hi again,

So if I happen to see sentences like this: "On Saturdays I go to the park", I have to add the comma, right? If it's a very short sentence, I wouldn't say a comma is essential. But I tend to use one.

Last question. In number 2, I could also write

SopranoBut I am not following the right structure PLACE first and TIME then..
True. But the correct use of the verb spend takes precedence. In this case you have to use the "amount of time" expression first because it is the object of spend.

The PLACE-then-TIME rule applies less to "amount of time" and more to "at what time":

And how about this?

On Sundays I have breakfast and play with the computer all day.

Is it correct? Should I add "all day long"?

Thank you.

Hi,

And how about this?

On Sundays I have breakfast and play with the computer all day.

Is it correct? It's OK.

Should I add "all day long"? 'Long' just adds some emphasis.

We usually 'play on the computer, not 'play with the computer'.
