All but

I wrote the following sentence, but cannot be sure about the use of "all but". What I mean is in rituals objects only have symbolic functions, symbolic being in the anthropological sense, but written this way, it does not quite have the same emphasis.

"In ritual use objects are stripped of all functions but symbolic in the anthropological sense."

I really appreciate the help.
