All about Participle..

Hello! I am Mac-Lyn Orbeta from Philippines, i was surfing the net and i found this page, and i guess it could help me either. I really had a hard time of revising sentences into participle. Just like this sentence. I TOOK A NOVEL AND I WENT INTO MY ROOM. I READ THE WHOLE AFTERNOON. the sentences are in need of revision into participle. I really need someone who could explain to me what is all about. How would i revise it? How would i determined.?
