Align

Hello

In a book about magic the author writes about people's spiritual allies. She writes: When you and one or more of your personal spiritual allies align your purposes and effort towards a specific aim, you can be exponentially more effective.

--- I'm not sure how to interpret the word "align" from the sentence above. I would say in this context it means something like "direct". So these allies "direct your purposes and effort towards a specific aim".

What do you think?

"align" normally means "line up", as in a straight line. I suppose, when a person's purposes are aligned/(lined up), they're directed toward a specific goal. (or at least I'd be inclined to interpret it this way)

Good catch, Newguest. The writer is semi-literate, hardly surprising. You can't align anything towards anything. Forget it.

That's why I was thinking about "directing".

Thanks
