Which operators can we use... +, -, x, / ...?
I assume we can only use each number once in each expression?
1 is obviously 1
2 is 8 - (5 + 1), if we're allowed to do that...

Hmm. If they can talk about teeth in the Dental Forum, I think it's OK to talk about maths in the Science Forum
All I'll add is that it get's pretty tricky, the higher the numbers. This is the best I could do for 100 (and I'm not sure if this counts as arithmetic) ...
