I am currently studying for my A level coursework, but having problems in finding evidence of Edgar Allen Poe's views on 'the new woman' in the Victorian era. It would be a great help if anybody could help me in finding evidence of his thoughts on the 'ideal woman' (self sacrifice in order to satisfy husbands etc..) and the 'new woman' ( symbol of changing gender norms within the late nineteenth century) through an analysis of his short story ‘The Oval Portrait’.
