I mentioned Alan Moore when we were discussing the WATCHMEN trailer a couple of weeks ago. Here's part of an interview he did with a British counterculture magazine where be breaks down the book's concept and his thoughts on the superhero genre:

My husband says he gave his share of the watchman movie *** to the comic book artist, and doesn't especially want his work associated with the film. Haven't been able to confirm.

However, Dale IS certain that when he called in to comic con to receive his Eisner, he was calling from his Mom's basement. Which used to be weirder than it sounds now...

That's been his established policy with Hollywood for some time; he has his royalty checks forwarded to the artists on the projects in question and asks that his name be removed from the credits. Evidently this stems from his disappointment with FROM ****, V FOR VENDETTA, CONSTANTINE and THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY
GENTLEMEN. In a way I can't blame him, since SteveGerber's career never recovered from his name being associated with the HOWARD THE DUCK movie.
Y'know, if it were me I would probably take the dough, but I admire him for walking it like he talks it. Money is just not the most important thing in his world, and that's something that's going to freak a lot of people out.

I'm sure that's hardly an indication of his financial situation. Later on in that interview he says that all he has to do for a living is open the front door, bend down and pick up the checks, presumably royalties from the reprints of his old comics (which he does accept).

Last week I went down to the local comic book store and there were shelves filled with new TPBs of WATCHMEN, evidently to tap into the public's curiosity surrounding the trailer running before THE DARK KNIGHT. Heck, I'll probably pick one up myself since my ancient copy is practically falling apart from all the times I've lent it out.

I also couldn't help but notice how many non-comic book fans were in the store this last time. It appears that, finally, the superhero movies are actually getting a few people curious about the medium from which they've sprung.

No, I never thought of it as an indication of his financial situation.

Comic Con heat blew the book through the roof. The last copies at the con sold for $30-40 bucks, and diamond had drop shipped literally hundreds of them for the weekend.
