Contrary to popular belief, airlines should invest more in new planes to keep their operating costs low. Fuel efficiency offered by the new technology that comes with new planes will help airlines increase their profit margins which have been squeezed by rising fuel costs. In the long run, their investments will pay off many times over. Meanwhile, they should continue reducing wastage by removing unnecessary load in planes, cutting taxi time and increasing air controller efficiency.
