aim was twofold

Hi
I was hoping to use this phrase which I thought was correct
The aim was twofold.
But when I checked Google there were many examples of twofold using the plural form.
The aims were twofold
Appreciate if somebody could tell me which form is correct

They're both correct.

In your case, you're trying to say that one aim has two objectives.
I'm sure you've heard the old saying of "killing two birds with one stone!"

My aim/objective is to do/accomplish A and B.

My aims/objectives are to do/accomplish A and to do/accomplish B.
