Aids have relation to the Catholic church and the Tories?
Hi~
i'm studying movie script for improving my english.
I've seen in the British movies,
one character said,
"Troy(character) would have loved to come tonight,
but thanks to the conspiracy of silence between the Catholic Church and the Tories in the face of Aids,
he can't. Because he's dead."
I can't understand what relation Aids have with the Catholic Church and the Tories.
Could you tell me the culture or kind of that society?

Hi, The implication is that the Tories and the Catholic Church have done very little to stop the spread of AIDS, probably because they primarily consider it the result of choosing sinful behaviour or even ***'s punishment on the part of those afflicted. ( I'm not stating this as my opinion on the topic of AIDS. ) Best wishes, Clive

By the way, AIDS (all capitals) is singular -- I think it stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome.
