Letter Writing

aid/aid in & understanding/an understanding

Are any of these incorrect?

Drafted guidelines to aid understanding and compliance
(this one is a bullet point in CV)

Designed processes aiding in identification of non-compliance
(a CV bullet point)

I drafted guidelines to aid an understanding of the protocol.
(a sentence from a cover letter)

I guess I have two questions:
1) do you say aid something or aid in something?
2) if the term 'understanding' relates to something specific, do you have to say 'an understanding'? How would that work for the term 'identification'?

Thanks a lot!
