Reference to the decentralized selection for the study International Business, I would like to inform you about my international background, reason to do IB, reason to choose Erasmus and career aspirations.

I have been qualified to do secondary school of vwo level. Although I have average grades for languages, I am very interested in European habits and histories. That is why I have spent every summer vacation on traveling trough Europe. I have been in many European countries, like France, Germany, Switzerland, etc. My interest for habits lies far beyond Europe. I’m also very interested in cultures in Asia, especially my homeland, China. I have traveled trough Asia too. It is really fun to learn the protocols of different countries and try to adapt and mingle with the local people. It is also very instructive to deal with people with other cultural backgrounds, because they all have difference way of thinking and doing things. By learning their lifestyle and understanding it, you will establish a close relationship with them. Knowing people and establish relationships are basic for trade.

Although I’m very interested in cultures and habits, I did choose the wrong profiles three years ago. My profiles are Nature&Technique and Nature&Health. Now I’m regret that I have made that decision. After 2 years in Nature profiles, I start to realize that my real passion lays in economy, which is why I have chosen economy as my minor subject. Since I have made that wrong decision I start to be more carefully at making decisions. Long I have been doubt about my academic study choice. Finally I have found my call in International Business, because I want to do something with my interest for economy and at the same time I can enlarge my knowledge about other cultures and their habits. International Business is given in English only, therefore I have improved my English level from a 4 (F-graded) to 7 (B-graded). I have also gained an extra minor subject, Management&Organization to my study during my exam year. I hope I will gain benefits from it in my academic study. Although Nature-profiles are not the right profile to do IB, it benefits me. I have learned how to think and manage logically. I also know many thing about physics, chemistry and biology, which can be useful to start a conversation. I think my math-level is also higher than average students with economic-profile.

IB is my first choice of academic study. My choice of university is limited, because IB is a new study in Netherlands. Only university Maastricht and University Erasmus give this study. To know these universities in real, I have joint open day and “meelopendag” several times. I have compared programs of the both universities; it is very similar to each other. But according to me Eramus do have better facilities than Maastricht, certainly when the new economy building comes in use. Beside I like the city Rotterdam, It is a modern city with fascinating buildings and infrastructure. Rotterdam is also very well-known in business world, because it is one of the largest harbor cities in the world. Inhabits of Rotterdam is multinational; it surely will have benefits on my international development. University Eramus have many contacts with other universities and companies in the world, which is very handy. Also the university Erasmus is high ranked in the world, that well-knowingness will give me bonus points for my later solicitation for work.

I want to work for a large international company, for example Phillips. I like to work on Business relationships, such as customer relations, investor relations, personnel relations etc. A job with a lot of travels and communication. I love to travel around world, meeting people and establishing worldwide relationships. My preference goes to Asia, where a personal relationship the basic is for a good business relationship. In these high-context countries like China, Korea, Japan etc where managers like to use pre-negotiation or pre-transaction rituals to learn more about their business partners. I also feel comfortable about their lack of haste, which include time spent in building business relationship is not seen as diminishing efficiency. I think as they do: informal, personal agreements are more important than contractual, formal agreements.
