"aid in" Vs. "aid to"

Hi,
Can someone help me on this sentence.

which one is correct "aid to" or " aid in". How do we use these in general.

1. Applicants were either asking his aid in writing english or thanking him for such help.
2. Applicants were either asking his aid to write english or thanking him for such help.
