Ahead there

'He is back there.' Regarding this expression I was just wondering if this one also works- ' He is ahead there'.

Is it okay?

Please help!

I assume that by "He is back there" you mean that someone is behind you, and you want the corresponding expression when someone is ahead of you. "He is ahead there" does not feel very natural to me. You can say "He is up ahead (there)".
