Agreement

Should I say: My favourite food is apples because "they are" delicious, or My favourite food is apples because "it is" delicious. Should the pronoun refer to "My favourite food" or "apples"?

The sentence "My favorite food is apples" has "My favorite food" as the subject, and that's what drives the verb. My favorite food IS...

There was a thread about this recently - claiming native speakers would say "My favorite food are bananas" which all 3 or 4 native speakers who responded (though all were from the US) soundly refuted.

I agree with you completely. I never said it should be My favorite food are.

The original poster asked about the question "My favorite food is apples."

I was afraid the original poster could have gotten the impression that in the original sentence, "are" is the correct verb - and cearly it is not. Given that there was disagreement about this quite recently, I thought it was a continuation of that thread.
