Hi,

Which one of these sentences sounds better and why?

1. The company has been aggressive to maintain its market share.

2. The company has been aggressive in maintaining its market share.

Thanks,

MG.

#2 sounds fine. I don't like #1 much. "be agressive to do something" doesn't seem like very good English to me.

the first tells you that the company is being aggressive in trying to gain a market share. the second tells you that it has been successful in doing so.
