aged

Is it okay to say, "Someone is aged" if they are 80 years old ?

Any other adjectives to describe them?

Thanks,

____

Note: I prefer the pattern: Subject + be + adjective

Aged is fine. Another adjective does not spring to mind. Referring to them as senior citizens is the most common alternative, I think.

Hi, MrM,

1. The patient is aged.

2. The patient is a senior citizen.

Which one (1 or 2) sounds more natural?

Thanks for the reply.

Note: 'Senior citizen' is not an adj.

Hi,

If someone is 80, I think the most natural thing would be simply to say they are 'elderly' or perhaps 'old'.

Best wishes, Clive

Yes, thanks Clive-- I had forgotten elderly, used as an adjective and also frequently as a noun (as is aged). Perhaps the patient is elderly is the most common elocution of the lot.
