It seems strange to me. The usual is "for an extra charge." Where did you come across that text?

I was reading some contract contents for knowledge purpose and found that sentence. And feel strange because in the new one, customer changed it into "without extra charge". I'm wondering whether it is same or not "against extra charge" and "without extra charge". "Against extra charge" meaning is so ambiguous.

No, they're not the same. "Without extra charge" makes sense.

In case of emergency, vendor has to install new equipment against extra charge.

This means he has to do this no metter the cost. But doesn't really say who pays for it.


In case of emergency, vendor has to install new equipment without extra charge.

This means vendor has to do it for free. Customer is on the safe side.
