Again use of "was" and "has been"

Dear All,

l would like to ask which of "was" and "has been" is better in my case. l did some experiments and measurements during my PhD and now l am documenting this in my PhD work. Example:

The migration of elephants has been/was analysed from the helicopter... and it has been/was found that they migrate from the North to the South.

What would your recommend in this case and why?

This is what I would write because it sounds like a report of some research that is now finished.

The migration of elephants was analysed from the helicopter... and it was found that they migrate from the North to the South.

It's in the past, and it's not still happening. No one is still analysing anything from a helicopter.
